Our feature article at For The Girls this month is about female sex bloggers. I had a really interesting time talking to numerous bloggers for the article – with extra thanks to Always Aroused Girl and Audacia Ray.

I am not a sex blogger in the standard sense of the word. While my blog is about sex and porn, it’s not \about me. I don’t often write about my private life, I don’t post pictures of myself, I don’t participate in Half Nekkid Thursday (although, you know, perhaps I should. Now we’ve got a decent camera it’s starting to look appealing).

I’ve actually made an effort not to put too much of myself into this blog. One reason is because I want it to be a newsy sort of blog, and another reason is that Ms Naughty is partly a promotional vehicle for my porn.

But the other reason is that I’m just not so keen on sharing my sex life with the world. It’s not that thrilling, for a start, and it’s also something I don’t want to write about. I don’t want to invite my blog into the bedroom so that it’s always there, lurking, waiting for post fodder. Working with porn is bad enough – I can sometimes find myself distracted from the task at hand (as it were) because I’m thinking of a new erotic story, or an exciting new site, or a marketing article I read. When sex is your work, boundaries get blurred.

Privacy is a big issue. As we’ve seen recently with the outing of The Girl With A One Track Mind, and even Chelsea Girl’s cyberstalker, sex blogging can be a dangerous, fraught business. I don’t have a “real” job to protect, but I’m not in any hurry to let people know more about me than they need to. There are some strange people out there.

On top of that, I’m a bit of a wimp. I’m crap at ignoring abuse, and sex blogging has it’s share of trolls. I take things to heart, and I get mad. In the past I’ve been involved in a number of online disputes, and consequently lay awake half the night composing long, angry replies full of self-justification, all the while worrying that what they said was really true.

So, given all this, I have to say how much I respect those people who do blog about their sex lives. They take a lot of risks, both personal and emotional, to do what they do. And I think it’s worthwhile. They offer so many fresh, real perspectives on sex – and they make for some hot reading.

So thank you, sex bloggers. Keep it up.

Suddenly it seems as though sex blogging awards are everywhere!

Nominations for the Dirty Spoke Sex Blog of the Year awards close on the 15th January.

A site called KBCafe currently has voting for best sex blog among others, from a huge selection of 2.

I found this “best sex blogs” page from a site called the Best of Blogs awards, but they don’t seem to having a competition this year. Or maybe it’s been delayed.

So… I wasn’t going to nominate myself… I’m not quite a “sex blog” in the standard sense of the word. And then I don’t have nearly enough traffic or readers to get a look in at the Bloggies. But then I looked at the Dirty Spoke page and ego kicked in.

So… please nominate me I nominated myself for “Best Female Sex Blogger.” Me Me Me, it’s all about me.
