Censorship Absurdities
Thanks to Crikey.com for publishing this story that reveals Saddam Hussein’s gruesome hanging video would have got an R rating in Australia, whereas sexually explicit movies “without artistic merit” get an X rating and bans.
The Eros Association decries the whole situation as ridiculous, especially in light of their failed attempt to have Viva Erotica passed as an R rated film.
Eros’ Fiona Patten says:
“The CRB is basically saying to the Australian public that the film of Saddam’s execution cannot be said to “cause offence to a reasonable adult” while Viva Erotica can. This determination is so far from the reality of what Australian public opinion is on these issues that the federal Attorney-General needs to urgently intervene and conduct an enquiry.”
Meanwhile, Tony Comstock has made this post, pointing out that a horrifying rape scene in the film Hounddog involving 12 year old actress Dakota Fanning is regarded as “art” but consensual real sex is only “porn.”
It’s all rather absurd.
