Show Us Yer Budgie Smugglers
Ah, the humble pair of Speedos, source of much mirth to many - and quite a few sexual fantasies to boot.
Thanks to this article, I now know that there’s an entire documentary devoted to the Speedo called Packed Lunch. And I know that male Speedo briefs were invented in Sydney in 1960. Gay designer Peter Travis was commissioned by Speedo to produce a range of men’s swimwear and he decided that the best idea was to produce a pair of briefs worn from the hips.
The doco looks at the history of Speedos and the fetishization of the garment, along with interviews with men who wouldn’t be without their dick-stickers.
One man I met in Sydney has more than 5000 pairs of Speedos. Mark’s obsession began when his aunt bought him his first pair when he was a young boy; he showed me part of his collection - a mere 1200 pairs.

But I think “Budgie Smugglers” is my all-time favourite giggly term for Speedos.
