Women Love Sex Toys And Porn
MSNBC has an article about the growing popularity of porn and sex toys among women.
“Women are hungry for sex toys and porn. Not all women, of course, but a lot more than you might think and they are flocking to women-owned businesses to get them. They are watching women-produced sex videos. They are gathering with other women in nice suburban homes and giggling at sex toy parties the way their mothers used to gather round, drink coffee and order Tupperware. In the process, they are throwing off the few remaining inhibitions against enjoying their sexual lives.”
Nothing new to us, of course, but it’s fun when a major news outlet realises that women are interested in the odd spot of smut.
The article does contain the following interesting statistics:
* Passion Parties sold $20 million worth of adult goods in 2005
* 65% of all customers at the Grand Opening adult stores are women
* Candida Royalle’s movies sell an average of 10,000 copies per month (that’s $3 million a year)
That last figure is pretty impressive. I’ve always known Candida’s films were popular, but I never had a dollar figure before. When you consider that Candida’s first film was made in 1985, and it’s still selling, it becomes apparent just how successful the Femme company has been.
