This, my friends, is the full cover of Petra Joy’s new DVD Her Porn 2 which has been unleashed onto the world.
Aside from the general fabulousness of this movie, which includes short films from famous directors such as Candida Royalle, Annie Sprinkle, Shine Louise Houston and Maria Beatty, it also includes my film That’s What I Like!
Yes folks, it’s finally on DVD, along with the other finalists from the Petra Joy Awards. So this must mean I’m a REAL pornographer now. 10 years online and a hugely successful paysite doesn’t count. I’m now on a hard copy digital format so I must be real.
Here’s the official blurb:
This compilation celebrates the best porn made by women for women: from sensational porn classics by pioneering directors to the latest erotic flicks by new female directors from around the world.
HER PORN seduces with nearly three hours of sensual viewing pleasure.
What do women want in sex and porn? HER PORN has the answer. We hope you will enjoy the many different flavours of female-made porn – from vanilla to kinky, straight to queer and soft to hard.
The film is in the process of being distributed and I can’t really name any online places to buy it beyond the European store Openerotik.com. And of course, you can order through Petra’s site.
I’ll do another post soon with the trailer for the film, plus a bit more information. But for now, just enjoy the cover. Yes. That’s Mia and Andy right underneath the big red letters. Ooh, I feel all funny.

In the last week Adam and Eve and Candida Royalle have released Petra Joy’s Feeling It to the US market. The film has a new cover, one that’s quite radically different to the old one. As you can see it features a big pic of the female stars all laughing together with champagne. They’re not nude. There are three other pics along the bottom but none are explicit. It’s an interesting idea; the cover art seems to suggest this is a fun, “girl’s night out” kind of film, rather than a porn movie. I’m wondering if it will make a difference to sales.
I think I prefer the original cover which features the gorgeous Belle blissfully caressed by a hunky black guy, their skin contrasting in an alluring way. Perhaps the mainstream people didn’t like the “interracial” overtones… because you can’t just have a black guy and white girl together. You have to label them.
Anyway, this looks like Petra’s big break into the US market which is great; she’s been stymied by difficult distributors in the past. And having Candida’s name on anything will ensure it gets out there and sells.
Meanwhile, I’ve been slaving away updating Porn Movies for Women. I’ve added new directors/companies Anna Brownfield, Courtney Trouble and Joybear plus updated the Playgirl and Sweet Sinner pages with their new titles. And I added a bunch of new names to the Female Directors of Porn page, including myself (hell, why own a huge encyclopedic website if you can’t be a bit biased towards yourself?). It’s becoming apparent that the “hall of fame” of feminist porn directors is getting decidedly large. And that’s fabulous.
And I really need to write up some new reviews but I think I’m knackered.
Edit: I did a quick review of Nica Noelle’s The Stepmother.
Petra has uploaded these videos shot on the 24th October at the Joy Awards.
And here’s snippets from the winning films including mine:
Part of me is mortified at how I look on that video. There’s a reason I’ve been anonymous all these years and it’s not just privacy or safety. I’m also kicking myself because I had a fabulous necklace and earrings ready to wear on the night and forgot to put them on. I was so distracted by trying to strap on my mile-high lesbian wedding heels (and then I spent half the night trying not to fall off them). So I look kind of bare. At least the professional makeup job looked nice.
Anyway, I’m out of the porn closet now for better or worse.
I should say that the other winners I met on the night – Lindsay, Cora and Lola – were all lovely and very talented. We had a great time drinking champagne in the limo – even if we did get stuck in traffic and had to do a 16 point turn to make it back to the cinema in time.
I will say thank you again to Petra for organising the whole thing and also thank you to Pjur for putting up the prizemoney. It helped to pay for my trip to Berlin and accommodation which was great.
I’ve long been a fan of the films of Petra Joy. Now she’s launched The Joy Award, a short film competition that aims to encourage new female filmmakers to create erotic movies.
This award is for first time female film-makers who would like to create erotic films that dare to question porn clichés and show sex in innovative and creative ways…
The theme of the short film competition is: “What is erotic to you?”. The maximum duration of the films is five minutes. The genre is open – from animation to documentary or erotic vignettes – we welcome all films that show sex and eroticism in an innovative, creative and artistic way.
The winners receive cash prizes, a screening at the Berlin Porn Film Festival and a chance to be on her next DVD.
Petra has written about the award on her website.
From years of battling the odds, I understand how hard it is to raise finance for a film and get your first work published and distributed, especially if your film questions clichés and breaks the mould, so I really hope that through my mentoring and the sponsorship from pjur we will discover some new female talent and make more female fantasies seen and heard.
It’s great to see Petra encouraging new talent like this and I’m now considering whether I should enter. I must admit, I’ve been reconsidering my movie making career following the arrest of the owner of Abby Winters last month so I’m not sure where to go with my filmmaking (except, perhaps, overseas). Still, I’ve already got a couple of ideas about what I’d like to do.
The deadline is 15th September so I (and you) need to get cracking!
Good news for female porn fans in the US – Petra Joy has revealed on her blog that Feeling It is going to be distributed in America through Candida Royalle’s Femme line of films, and Adam and Eve. I know Petra’s had a hell of a time trying to get her films out to the public, with numerous potential distributors either going broke or else trying to impose inappropriate ideas and marketing onto her movies. It’s great to see Candida continue her legacy of offering top quality erotic films to women.
Petra has two short films showing at the Cinekink festival in New York this weekend, excerpts from Feeling It. She’s also working on a documentary about women who make porn. I’m looking forward to seeing it.
Find out more about Petra’s films and where to get them here.
I had the wonderful pleasure of meeting filmmaker Petra Joy at the Berlin Porn Film Festival and she was just as smart, sassy and fun as I expected her to be. Like many of those I met at the festival, we are very much aligned philosophically; it’s a bit like talking to an old friend, even though it was the first time we’d met in person.
The final night of the festival saw the official big screen premiere of her third film Feeling It and it played to a packed house. I had already seen the film to review it but that didn’t stop me from going all weepy and emotional AGAIN during the exquisite lovemaking scene between Belle and her dark, gorgeous lover. There’s something about this film that just turns me into a jellyfish – and I thought I was fairly immune to porn.
In any case, my husband filmed the extensive Q&A afterwards, including the question from one perplexed (and probably virginal) guy who said he only spotted one and a half orgasms during the whole show. I’ll include the best bits in the mini-doco I’m making about the festival for For The Girls.
Petra came to the festival after a major triumph at the Venus Adult Industry Awards. The organisers created a special category just for her and gave her the Special Jury Prize for “Pioneering Achievements in Porn for Women”. It’s great to see the European adult industry finally recognising the efforts of people like Petra – even if they tend to be infuriating at other times (check Petra’s blog for further details of the frustrations she encountered during the expo). There’s no similar award or category in the US industry which is a real shame, I think.
The other good news is you can now download all of Petra’s films via her VOD site.
I’m currently working on a shorter video of the festival to feature on the blog. Stay tuned, I’ll have it up by the end of the week, hopefully.
Petra Joy reports on her blog that her latest film Feeling It is up for two major awards at this year’s International Erotic Film Festival in Madrid, Spain (FICEB). The first nomination is for Best Film and the second is for Best Director. She’s up against heavyweights from the adult industry including films from Vivid and Evil Angel. It’s quite an achievement for an indie director and it’s also a big feather in the cap for women’s porn – for such a film to be in the running at a major award night is pretty damned impressive.
The awards are announced this Wednesday.
So congratulations to Petra – I hope she wins!
PS – What a cool pic to represent the film festival (above)
The London Gay and Lesbian Film Festival, hosted by the BFI, featured a special selection of female-focused and produced erotica. Under the banner “Female Fantasies”, the festival screened a number of erotic shorts by female filmmakers, including Petra Joy. From festival website:
A new wave of feminist pornographers explore authentic onscreen sexuality with humour, edge, and style. Celebrating bisexual and lesbian women’s fantasies, they are not afraid to cross genre or gender to turn themselves on.
Petra discusses going to the dinner and screenings on her blog here.
On the weekend I watched Petra Joy’s latest film “Feeling It” and I’m ready to announce that it’s the greatest porn for women movie EVER. Yes, yes, I know that’s what I said about her last film, Female Fantasies, but this is a NEW one. And I don’t think I’ve got enough rampant adjectives to describe how fantastic I think this movie is.
It’s lush, it’s sensual, it’s raunchy, it’s fucking hot. The actors and actresses are all gorgeous and they really do engage with each other and become immersed in what they’re doing. The sex is realistic and obviously pleasurable.
The cover photo features the beautiful Belle and scrumptious black man Yosi Moran. Their scene is a feast for the eyes, it’s like watching white and dark chocolate making love. I got a little teary at the sheer beauty of it all.
Petra says she’s having difficulty getting the film distributed, once again. Hopefully this will be resolved soon. In the meantime, check out the film’s official site as well as Petra’s blog to find out where you can get hold of this magnificent film. You can also write directly to Petra and request a copy.
Great news. Petra Joy’s third film, Feeling It, is due for release in March 2008. The film also has a website which features some wonderful still photos from the movie and information about the stars. There are some hot new amateur performers involved who were recruited from Europe during Petra’s travels.
A few excerpts from the site:
Petra’s motto “Feeling it, not faking it!” is being embraced passionately by the authentic amateur performers. The results are breathtaking (female) orgasms and a humane portrayal of human sensuality to inspire the viewers…
The film’s stories are based on erotic fantasies that women shared with Petra. Some are Petra’s own. The fantasies are the basis of a vignette – what happens sexually is up to the performers. All performers only experience sexually on set what gives them genuine pleasure. The shoots are creative teamwork and there is time for intimacy and sensual play to develop as Petra has no check list of positions that need to be ticked off.
I really can’t wait to see it.
It’s also looking like Petra’s other two films, Female Fantasies and Sexual Sushi will become readily available in the US this year. Fingers crossed.
I’ve said it before: I’m a huge fan of Petra Joy’s and I recently reviewed her debut film Sexual Sush for For The Girls.
Just like Female Fantasies, I thoroughly recommend this movie. It’s exactly the kind of thing I’ve been waiting for – a real female perspective and a focus on female pleasure. Top stuff.
An excerpt from my review:
I watched Sexual Sushi expecting more female-friendly porny goodness, and I’m pleased to say that I wasn’t disappointed. This film is another wonderful example of how good women’s erotica can be. Petra’s motto of “feeling it, not faking it” really comes across here, as does her desire to “stimulate the sex organ between your eyes.”
You’ll find Sexual Sushi at Strictly Broadband or check out Petra’s Sexual Sushi site.

Congratulations to Petra Joy. Her film Female Fantasies has won Best Soft Film at the Barcelona Erotic Film Festival (site is a bit out of date). I’m not sure it deserves the moniker “soft” because the film is certainly hardcore in places. Perhaps the definitions have shifted somewhat and “hardcore” can only mean DPs and rough sex or something like that.
Anyway, Petra’s blog has a great post about it entitled “It’s the winning that counts.”
It is the winning that counts because it makes you realize that it was all worth it: to spend five months working day and night, borrowing 30 grand from the bank to finance the film, taking out more money to pay for the flight and accommodation in Barcelona. It all comes down to this point: holding the solid bronze award in my hand with the biggest smile in my heart.
At the time of writing, Petra should be in Berlin attending the Venus Trade Fair. She says that Female Fantasies has been nominated for an award there as well at the eLine Awards. Apparently they have a new category this year – Female Hardcore Porn – but I’m hard pressed to find any further information about it. Hopefully Petra can fill us in soon.
I really wish her well. It’s great that the film is winning awards because it really deserves it.
Visit the official Female Fantasies site here.
It’s also available at Strictly Broadband.

Petra Joy is making her third film
This is the greatest porn for women movie EVER
Petra Joy and Female Fantasies
My new favorite filmmaker Petra Joy is currently working on her third film, a follow up to Female Fantasies, which I raved about in this post.
She’s also started a blog detailing her adventures in filmmaking which makes for fascinating reading. Aside from updates on filming and editing, she’s given us an insight into how difficult it is for indie producers to get their product onto the shelves.
She reveals that a distribution deal fell apart because of a disagreement over what should go on the cover:
The cracks between the co-operation began to show when they emailed me their favourite DVD packaging: a single woman with silicon boobs, her face airbrushed to the extreme against a white background. It was the typical high key porn look that the Americans tend to create for the blokes to enjoy. The kind of image I would use when I do a porn parody. When I explained that I would like them to use my stills on the cover of my films and that the image should show a couple or a hunky man rather than artificially enhanced porn star, they pulled the plug.
All I asked for was having input in the cover design of my own movie and an approval of the final, soft cut.
Am I asking too much?
No, Petra, I don’t think you are.
One of the biggest problems for the porn-loving woman out there is that so much of the porn industry has calcified into cliches, assumptions and by-the-book methods. Too many producers simply can’t get their head around the idea that a woman might want something a little bit different. Indeed, a lot of men are sick of the same old stuff as well.
Petra’s film is so unabashedly made for straight women. It doesn’t even try and cater to a typical male porn audience (although there’s plenty there for an intelligent man to enjoy) and that’s what’s so fabulous about it. It’s hardcore erotica with a real sense of beauty about it and a determination to put female pleasure first.
I’m so thrilled to see Petra break out of the mould, I want to get the word out to as many people as possible about her work. Her films are self-funded and she does her own distribution so they’re a little harder to obtain than most movies.
You can get them at Harmony stores in London, Wild and Wicked in Australia, Lustundliebe in Austria and Erotikmarkt in Switzerland.
You can also download it from Strictly Broadband.
I’ll say it again – Female Fantasies is the best porn for women movie I’ve ever seen.
This Saturday For The Girls features an interview with Petra as our feature article for the month.
I’ve been meaning to watch Petra Joy’s Female Fantasies for months now and I finally got around to seeing it today.
And by God, it’s good.
I’ve just been blown away by this movie, and now I’m raving about it to anyone who’ll listen. I’ve finally found a real, honest-to-goodness porn movie that really is for straight women. One that ticks all the boxes when it comes to depicting female pleasure and having a female point of view. One that’s damned hot!
My full review of the film will appear at For The Girls next week but I just can’t help but post about it here. If you’re looking for good porn for women you simply MUST watch this movie.
Unfortunately it’s a little difficult to get hold of. The best chance you have to watch it is via Strictly Broadband which offers the film in a streaming format for 7 days.
Watch the trailer here.
