Survey by chocolate makers says women don't like naked menThey had planned to add posters of nearly-naked men ("cropped just above the tide line") to their 600 stores, as well as redesign the box for the Eden chocolates. As part of their promotional research, they conducted a phone survey of 1024 adults. Apparently in the course of this research, they concluded that only 4% of women found naked men "sexually attractive". Perhaps revealingly, the majority of both men and women polled said that partial nudity was actually sexier than seeing the full monty. Their press release said this was because it provided more scope for the imagination. In any case, they spent time and money altering the "tide line" posters to include a fig leaf, although what that changes is beyond me. Is the 4% figure accurate? It's entirely possible, although unfortunately the article does not give any further details of exactly what questions were asked, what age the subjects were, or any of those other nasty variables that can create a result such as this. I went looking for further info on the survey, but couldn't find anything. The 4% figure is of no comfort to my poor male friend who was worried about why some women laugh at naked men. And it's not exactly the kind of statistic a 4women marketer wants to hear either. Of course, I stand behind my comments made in this thread about why some women aren't attracted to naked men. I do think it's still a societal thing - although the whole "it's sexier if you can't see it" concept certainly has its merits. And the statistic just doesn't match up with the other research and surveys done on the issue of women and porn, nor does it tally with my own anecdotal evidence. Perhaps the real question asked was "What looks better - a naked man or an expensive box of chocolates?" If THAT was the question, then there are definitely days when I'd be among the 96% Posted: Monday 21st February 2005, 9:15 PM Back to the Blog
