Another week rolls byOh, and I spent waaay too much time defending my brand of porn for women from yet another "you're being sexist and stereotypical" type. She (it's always a she) asserted that because For The Girls featured hetero sex with an emphasis on foreplay and romance that we were being stereotypical about what women want. I pointed out that, funnily enough, it IS what a lot of women want. That's why it's on our site. It's popular. It sells. I also said I'd had enough of trendy "alternate" types who think that hetero women somehow need to be liberated from their tastes because they assume that women who enjoy romance or vanilla sex with men are somehow oppressed. Then I was told that my brand of porn "tacitly" denied the experiences of lesbians and other non-vanilla women because I had the nerve to call it "porn for women." Well, as much as I'm tempted to announce that my porn sites are "the only porn for every single woman on the entire planet" it just doesn't roll off the tongue quite as well. I do accept that "porn for women" is a pretty wide ranging label to use, but it is very useful in defining a market. As I've said in a previous post, perhaps the "for women" audience has grown and matured to the point that we can start creating more specific terms for what's on offer. The problem is that the men have dibs on most of the "niches". By the way, it's funny how many things you can "tacitly" deny if you think about it. I mean, FTG also "tacitly" denies the rights of gay men by not having any gay content on it. Big Brother "tacitly" denies the rights of smart adult people by consistently featuring a pack of socially inept, stupid young people. The Louvre tacitly denies the work of young performance artists by mainly featuring the work of the old masters... Where do you stop? In in the end, this woman announced that I was sexist and homophobic and that I was lacking in intelligence. It's always a nice way to end a conversation, I think.
