Andrea Dworkin is deadMy first reaction was "good riddance!" as her ideas were extremely radical, anti-male and anti-sex. She went so far as to suggest that all sex was rape, and that women should have their own country in the same way that the Jews have Israel. Her 1981 book on pornography was well written and argued comprehensively against all sexually explicit material, however I always thought it was based on flawed assumptions about how men think. Indeed, I always found a certain irony in the way that Dworkin railed against the stereotyping of women in porn, and then happily set about doing exactly the same thing to men. Admittedly she was a very intelligent, well read woman who fought hard for what she believed in, and she worked hard for women's rights, so perhaps it's a shame she's dead. Still, I can't be sad that she's gone, and I can only hope that her brand of radical sex-hating feminism dies with her. Posted: Tuesday 12th April 2005, 7:14 AM Back to the Blog
